MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES
From BYU-I to ISU
(Not an Official Site of BYUI or ISU)
About This Site
Ever heard of Medical Laboratory Sciences before? We wouldn't be surprised if you haven't - it's not a very visible part of the workforce. Despite the fact, its a critical part of healthcare and other fields. Remarkably, demand for certified MLS (1) is 13% in even greater than than nursing (2). It's no wonder too - how can you pursue a field you've never seen or heard much about? Did you know that most students who graduate with a degree in microbiology or something similar have difficulty finding work in hospitals without an MLS (ASCP) certification? Seriously! Jobs are much more limited without it and many students eventually move on to get either a second Bachelor's or a Masters in Medical Lab Sciences after their first degree. Clearly, there's a lot to know and not many places to find the answers.
That's why we wanted to create this blog: to inform, guide, and keep in touch. In addition to creating an informative site for students as they consider, transition, and move through ISU's MLS program, we also wanted a way to create a network between students and the faculty at BYU-I. They are an inspiration for us and we owe them a great deal.
Here, you will find:
-
A Blog - Where students who are members can share their experiences.
-
Information on MLS careers - To answer your questions about the MLS field: income, job prospects, and future opportunities.
-
Information on ISU's MLS program - So you can learn how to prepare for the program and find helpful resources and insights.
-
A Forum - For anyone to ask questions and find answers from the community.
We encourage you to stay up to date by becoming a part of the community and following student's blogs, who will post about their experiences in the MLS program as they have them!
We're excited for you to get started!
